Yet another day in Eggmanland had begun. The streets were busy with organics and non-organics alike, all heading everywhere and nowhere in particular. Though the same could not be said for one certain red panda... Cotton raised her hand to her forehead in an attempt to block the early afternoon sun glare bouncing off of the metallic buildings nearby, trying desperately to find her way to "the Citadel". Why did this interview have to be during the day...? She was so sleepy... According to the posters plastered about the city, the Eggman Empire was hiring, and if there was any one person that was incredibly interested, it was Cotton. Never mind the fact that she was new to the city and had no idea where anything was or how anything was run... With a huff, the young woman turned this way and that looking for the "big egg building" that a passerby had told her to keep an eye out for. How could anyone find their way around a place so... busy? Still walking forward, she took the time to look back down at a poster she'd taken with her (not like it made a big different either way...) On it was the big guy himself wearing a suit, the Eggman symbol emblazoned all over it. Seemingly staring right at her, Eggman was pointing, face stern. This was the man she wanted to work for...the man she'd packed up and trekked from Old Town Soleanna for...left her home and friends fo- BAM! "OW!" Rubbing her sensitive forehead, Cotton looked up at just what she'd managed to bump into this time. A giant egg-like bui...wait a minute! Her rose eyes widened in shock, then joy. She'd finally found it! With a hop, she walked into the building. Immediately, she was blasted with cool air, so cold it made her give a little shiver despite her thick fur. Luckily, she hardly even noticed it, too stunned by what was in front of her. Eggman. Rather, a gigantic painting of Eggman that managed to take up the entire wall. Other than said painting, the office was surprisingly empty. There were a few black leather couches off to the side, a small coffee table in between them. Of more notice was the large rosewood desk directly below the large painting, as well as the small red robot directly behind it. Cotton began to hesitantly approach the robot, her small sandal heels echoing off of the polished white marble floors. "E-excuse me...? I'm here for the interviews. Those are supposed to be today, right...? She asked, a small waver in her voice. The sight of the high-end office was quite the shock to her rustic roots.

Orbot had worked many jobs during his brief existance, the majority of that time spent in Eggmanland. He had been a mechanic, project manager, janitor, secretary, security personel, caterer, and... that one unmentionable job involving a Scarabesque and the Eggmanland sewage plant, but he told himself through it all that it couldn't possibly get any worse. And then he was put on Human Resources. Over the past few days, he was gradually introduced to the former populace of Grand Metropolis that was now desperate (or crazy) enough to willingly work for Dr. Eggman, and the experience was... both facinating and extremely tiring. It was an endless line of dropouts, delinquents, and the occational sociopath, none of whom Orbot saw as fit for the Eggman Empire. He had originally been rejecting them left and right, but after a few days of getting zero recruits, Eggman demanded to know why no one was joining and Orbot's reply ("They failed to pass even your level of competency," was how he recalled putting it) wasn't accepted very well. Therefore, the robot had been forced to lower his standards when hiring. A lot. Needless to say, Orbot was quickly figuring out why Eggman had, until this point, relied nearly entirely on robots. And the occational uncontrollable demi-god. In any case, the robot was now sitting behind a desk at the Eggman Empire Recruitment Center, preparing for another day of failed interviews and tests. The sound of someone banging into the front door before opening it was not filling him with any confidence that today would be any different. Neither did the meek, female voice that followed soon after. With a grumbly sigh, Orbot glanced up from the huge pile of paperwork he had been thumbing through. " Well done, you passed the first test. You figured out how to open a door."

The blatant sarcasm completely blew over Cotton's head. Instead, her worried demeanor becoming more relaxed. She'd already passed a test without even trying! Maybe the whole interview was going to be this easy! The robot's peculiar way of speaking (that accent...if robots could HAVE accents) and design were strangely endearing to the red panda, causing her to let down her guard entirely. "Oh wow, are you the one giving the interviews? You're so small and cute~! I was expecting a big, scary robot with LASER EYES and CLAWS for hands, but I prefer you much more~" Cotton leaned on the desk, eyes twinkling and tail swishing in newfound affection for the compact robot. "My name's Cotton. Cotton Titian. I sent in my applicationnnn...maybe a week ago."

"Well... here we go." The young mouse sighed and swung open the door to the large egg shaped building. She took a deep breath, looking around with a slowly widening smile. This was it, her big chance to work with the great genius. The whole world would want to know her story... There was someone else there, as well. So there was competition, maybe. She seemed rather sweet, though, judging on how cheerfully she was conversing with the robot at the front desk. While waiting, Dizzy popped a small electronic e-book from her purse, and started reading.

"... ... ..." Orbot found himself moving back slightly when the red panda suddenly leaned on the desk, but he otherwise continued to give her a deadpan stare of disbelief. He let the awkward silence linger in the air for a moment - something he discovered communicated to Eggman the absurdity of whatever the doctor just said far better than actually saying as much - before finally replying. "Right then... Ms. Titian, is it? Go take a seat and wait, I'll be with you once I find your application. It will be a few minutes; very busy, you see." Granted, he didn't look all that busy, but... Orbot wasn't particularly concerned as to whether his excuse was convincing or not.

"Mmkay~" Cotton said dreamily, before turning to the couches and shuffling over, plopping down onto a seat with a small "oof". Little feet turned inward, she politely folded her hands in her lap and patiently waited for the bot to finish up his work with a small smile.

Dizzy put away her electronic book and stepped up to the desk. "Hello. I'm here for the interviews as well. My name is Dizzy, I applied two weeks ago?" She smiled warmly, trying to keep her nervousness at bay. If she played things properly, she could make this... HER BIG BREAK.

Orbot was not expecting someone else already (mostly because the red panda's head was previously obstructing most of his view), and thus was caught off guard by the mouse suddenly appearing at his desk. Minimizing his current game of Solitare on the desk computer, he turned his attention back to the new girl. ... And much to his surprise, she didn't seem that bad... so far. She was semi-formally dressed for the interview and addressing him properly. It was pretty clear that this was not her first interview and that she had actually come prepared. Granted, the name "Dizzy" was a mite suspect, but even so... Finally, someone with a lick of competence! Or, at least, that's what it looked like thus far... There was still the actual interview and tests to go, but he was desprate to be able to finally give someone the benefit of the doubt for once. "Oh! Yes, I do believe we still have your application here somewhere... Just sit down and I'll be with you after Ms. Titian." A pause as he looked over at the red panda. "... Unfortunately."

The mouse nodded, and smiled a bit. "Thank you, sir." Did you call a robot sir? Did they have genders? Maybe this was a ma'am and she'd just insulted... no, Diz, stop overthinking it. With a nod, she took a seat a couple down from the red-haired raccoon girl, and pulled out her e-book again. Hopefully the wait wouldn't be too long, she was getting butterflies. Oh, this was so exciting! Imagine, by this time tomorrow, she could be working for the Dr. Eggman.

A few minutes passed. Cotton had tried her best to focus on waiting for the interviews to start as professionally and patiently as possible. She'd look better (and more qualified) if she simply sat there and did absolutely nothing. Besides, that's what PROFESSIONALS did, right? Eventually, however, the red panda's mind began to wander. Was she going to see Eggman during the interview? What would he say if he were there? Was she going to get her own uniform? Was it going to be a custom outfit, or would everyone wear the exact same thing? Were they going to all have to get matching mustaches? The more Cotton thought, the less she paid attention to her actions. Consequently, by this point, she was swinging her legs, her tail was swaying back and forth, and her head was tilted back and to the side in deep, deep thought.

Diz, absorbed in her book, didn't notice the raccoon girl for a few minutes. But eventually she caught motion out of the corner of her eye. She peered up from her book to watch, curious. The redhead seemed just so... light, and carefree, if she dared to guess, maybe even airheaded. Maybe getting this job was going to be easier than she thought...

Orbot let out a quiet sigh as he lost yet another game of Solitare. Apparently, even having a fully sentient advanced AI didn't make this game any easier. Deciding that he had quite enough of that nonsense, he turned his attention back to the task at hand, looking over at where the women were waiting. ... Nuts, that red panda didn't wander off after a shiny thing yet. Oh well, might as well get this out of the way as quickly as possible. "Ms. Cotton? Ms. Dizzy?" he began, gathering up some application and legal forms, "I'm ready to interview the both of you." A door in the main hall opened automatically, revealing a smaller boardroom area, complete with a large table and whiteboards on the walls. No, it wasn't exactly protocol to interview two people at once, but... What was Eggman going to do about it? Fire him? "I will be there in a moment, so please, do hesitate to go inside." ... Was there supposed to be a 'not' in there somewhere? Eh, whatever.

The door's opening was what snapped Cotton out of her thoughts. Right when she'd been pondering if they would get Eggman-brand underwear, too... Vaguely disappointed she wouldn't be able to finish thinking on the incredibly important topic, she hoisted herself up from the couch and began to drift over to the newly revealed boardroom. After choosing a seat, Cotton finally realized that CuteRobo (since she hadn't learned his name, she just had to make him a nickname) had said a name other than hers. Dizzy...? She didn't like being dizzy; despite how fun the spinny feeling was, she always ended up bumping into things... Why was she named Dizzy anyway...? What if she were constantly dizzy?! The panda whimpered at the thought.

Dizzy, relieved to not be kept waiting, set her book away and stood. She headed into the boardroom behind the red raccoon girl. This place was small, but impressive. Exactly what she would have expected for someone of Eggman's caliber. Well, maybe it would have been a bit bigger, but it was sufficiently pretty. So it was to be a double interview. Interesting, she hadn't had one of those in a while. She wondered why it was being done this way. It wasn't like there were people breaking down the doors to be interviewed. Or maybe she was just early. She settled into one of the shiny leather chairs, and carefully adjusted her hat. She offered her hand to the raccoon girl. "Well, may the best girl win."

Immediately, Cotton's expression brightened at the mouse's friendly gesture. But what did she mean "best girl win"? Couldn't they both get into the empire? Or had that just been a bad assumption?! ....No way, they would probably both get in. The panda cheerfully took the other girl's hand and shook it delicately. "I hope we both get in~" she said with a smile. ((Auuugh short posts, but nothing to sayyyyy..))

Soon, Orbot would join them in the conference room, carrying with him a stack of papers taller than he was. Showing an incredible ammount of dexterity, he managed to carry the entire pile with him until he was seated across from the duo without a single sheet falling... and then proceeded to drop it unceremoniously on the table between the two girls with a resounding "THUD", sending a few stray papers flying, but otherwise keeping its original shape surprisingly well. "Welcome to the Eggman Empire. Before we begin, please take for yourselves a single copy each of these brief forms. You will need to have them filled out and returned to me by the end of the week." He then tossed a single pen on the table, persumably for the two of them to share. "I assure you, it's just the usual sort of papers. Payment options, NDAs, disclaimers, last will and testiment, dental... typical legal stuff. You can choose to fill it out now or wait until after the interview and testing; it is entirely up to you." Pause. "... Though doing so now gives me more time to play Solitare."

Dizzy took one of the forms and picked up the pen, reading over it rapidly. She checked a box here, signed her name there, and basically just continued to fill it out. "Hm... if I were to be beaten, maimed, or otherwise dead in the line of Empire duty, I'd want my belongings to go to... hm." She continued on.

That was....that was a lot of forms to fill out. Cotton's eyes couldn't help but widen when the small bot released the papers in a loud "THUD". W-was the table BENDING a little?! Either way, she waited for the mouse to fill out all of her forms (rather quickly, if she said so herself), then took the single pen...the...SINGLE PEN...and started filling out her own. ... ... 24. Why do you want to join the Eggman Empire? Eggman should have someone waiting at the base to heal him and cheer him up!... 46. Please list any allergies. Cotton, corn husks... 95. How evil is your laughter? Cotton paused, then laughed to herself as evilly as she could. It was adorable. Can bring an enemy to their knees!Cotton finally finished and stretched in her chair, tail and all.

Wait... they were done already!?... Clearly he had to make those forms longer in the future... "Oh! Er... Good job, thank you!" The small robot carefully shoved the pile of papers off to the side of the table, causing it to start noticably tilting in that direction. "With that out of the way with... disturbing quickness, we can proceed on with the interview proper." Orbot then pulled out another well-worn stapled pack of papers. Rather than handing it to them, however, he instead began reading from it himself... In a very bored, monotone fashion. " 'Thank you for applying to the Eggman Empire. This series of questions will help us determine whether or not you are a good fit for the Empire as well as what position you will serve us best in. All answers will be recorded for documentation, and can - and most likely will - be used against you if needed.'... Wait, was I supposed to read that last line out loud?..." The robot let out a nervous "cough" before continuing. " 'Question One: What is your primary motivation for wanting to serve the Great and Powerful Eggman?'... Besides Stockholm Syndrome setting in after his takeover, of course."

Dizzy didn't even have to think about that one. "That's easy. I want to work with him because he's a genius. A true bonafide genius. That deserves respect in this day and age. I want a chance to.... I don't know, soak up some of that brilliance."

Cotton took a very deep breath... "I joined the Empire because I always feel so bad for Mr. Eggman always being beaten up and it's not fair that he doesn't have anyone to cheer him up when he loses and that Sonic ALWAYS has people to cheer him up so I wanna be here for Eggman to and make him feel better because he's so amazing~" By the end of her explanation, the panda girl was leaning on the desk with a dreamy expression. Oh Eggman~

Orbot blinked a few times in response to the duo's answers. How did they both have such a high view of Eggman? He didn't have that good of an opinion of him, and the doctor created him! Maybe he should've clarified he was kidding about the whole Stockholm Syndrome thing... "Yes, er... Very well... I'm sure Eggman will be most interested in those responses," he replied, "In any case... 'Question Two: What do you consider to be your greatest strengths, and how can they be used to serve the Eggman Empire?' Brown-nosing is a perfectly acceptable answer, mind."

"I'm good at talking to people, so I could probably get information...and I've got a lot of experience in making people feel better, used to work in a clinic." Wait, what was....brown-nosing? Was that when you got your nose covered in chocolate ice cream because you were too busy thinking about what people in other countries ate? Or was it when you decided to balance chocolate on your nose for as long as you can and then forgot about it so it melted on your nose...? If it was either one of those, she was reaaaaally good at brown-nosing! That's probably what it was!...though, she didn't understand why that would be an essential skill... "Oh! I'm good at 'brown-nosing'!" Cotton leaned back with a smile, her answer complete.

Finally, time to sell herself. "Well, I'm a highly competent researcher as well as writer. I could write the Doctor some very impressive speeches if need be. I have some secretarial experience- but my main asset, is of course, my mind. I'm not as smart as the great Doctor Eggman, but I'm a cut above, if I may say so." She grinned brightly. But she wouldn't agree to brown-nosing, that denoted some type of dishonesty, didn't it?

Orbot didn't even try to hide the facepalm at Cotton's response. It was quickly becoming evident that her intelligence was comparable to Cubot's. The last thing he needed was another one like him running around. However... that Dizzy girl was actually proving to be a potentally valuable asset. "Heart and mind, hmm? What a cliche combination," the bot mused out loud, "ahem... 'Question Three: Where do you see yourself five years from now, if you live that long?'" ... No, that last bit wasn't something he had added. That really was on the interview checklist.

Five years, huh? Five years was a loooong time. She'd probably just keep doing what she was doing now, right? If she got into the EE, she would still keep making people feel better...and bake lots of sweets for Eggman~~~ And if she didn't, she would go back home to the old clinic. It was hard to admit, but Cotton had really gotten used to being away from home. She'd been cooped up in the same uneventful town for most of her life in the same uneventful house going to the same uneventful clinic day after day. And as much as she loved her friends and mother back home, she was enjoying the thought of this new life in front of her. "Five years from now?" Cotton began. "Five years from now, I wish to be serving in the Eggman Empire in a medical sector, providing healing services to all living organisms working under the Eggman name." Her tone was serious. Then again, she was focusing incredibly hard to try and sound as professional as possible. But unfortunately, her seriousness couldn't keep up with the speed of her thoughts, prompting her to add a quick, "...and baking muffins for Eggman every day...." in a low mumble.

"Five years?" Dang, she hated this type of question. It always seemed to come up on every single interview and she always flubbed it. Not today. No, she had to score this. That Cotton girl had sobered up for half a second and had a decent answer- all the way up to the point with the muffins, but no one was perfect. "In five years, I'll be working within the Empire as head researcher within the intelligence division." Hopefully there was actually an intelligence division to work for.

"Hmm..." the robot mused, before finally flippantly tossing the interview sheet over his shoulder, "Well, thank you, ladies, I believe that is all the answers I need." Well, okay, the truth was more like Orbot was just getting bored of interviewing, but that was besides the point. "Now, there is one more thing you two must do: All Eggman Empire recruits must successfully complete a field test before they can be considered. Certainly more entertaining than just doing interview questions. For me, at least." He motioned over to another, ordinary-looking wooden door leading out of the board room. "It's just right through that door whenever you are ready."

Dizzy stood up, raising her eyebrows. She wasn't sure this robot was doing his (its?) job, but she was too afraid to make a fuss. "Field test? What kind of field test?" She looked nervous all of a sudden, and despondent. She wasn't exactly good with physical things, and she knew it... But she also knew she had to at least try. "Well, I guess I'll just have to find out." She stood up and stepped up to the door. She let out a soft breath, and then, opened it.

A field test? Was that a test on a field? Did that door lead to an indoor field?! What if it were full of kittens? KITTEN FIELD~? They would just be flopping all over themselves making cute little mewling noises~ Maybe they'd be able to roll around in the grass~ Giggling to herself, Cotton stood up and followed immediately behind Dizzy, expecting to see a lush field somehow inside the building. Sure, it didn't make sense, but it was Eggman! He could do anything!
