Name:
Bridgette Quilson
Nicknames:
Breezie
Species:
Common Hedgehog (Erinaceus europaeus)
Gender:
Female
Age:
31
Alignment:
Neutral Neutral
Height:
4'3” - Breezie is very tall for a hedgehog.
Residence:
Central City
World of Origin:
Gaia
Occupation:
Founder and CEO of Breeze Media; Head of the Underground Syndicate
Personality:
A charmer to the core, Breezie exudes poise and class. Warm and accommodating to all she meets, she is very much a lady who bases her view of a person on merit. No matter where they came from, Breezie fully believes in giving everyone the tools they need to succeed and is fully willing to lavishly reward these successes, no matter how small they may seem to the outsider. A generous hedgehog unwilling to forget her humble beginnings, she makes a point of hiring in the destitute and disadvantaged, giving them the means and opportunity to turn themselves around while also heavily involving herself in charity work. After all – what's the use of her own massive success if she can't give back to and elevate the very people she came from?
Under the surface, Breezie is as ruthless and conniving as they come. She made her way to the top by being the wiliest even when she wasn't the best, by wanting it more, and by not bothering herself about the methods and morality of anyone she opposed or allied herself with on the way up the ladder – and remains unbothered, dismissing ideas of good and evil in favor of whoever or whatever grants her the largest long-run advantage. And while it's true that competence and loyalty are richly rewarded, well - it wouldn't do to disappoint Miss Breezie when she's so generously invested in you, would it?
Strengths:
Physical: Breezie has the standard abilities of a hedgehog – defensive curling utilizing her quills, keen senses of smell and hearing, toxin resistance, and good dim-light vision. Her sense of smell is particularly acute, allowing her to detect even tiny hints of unusual chemicals and traces of any staff members or intruders in her buildings.
Mental: Patient and insightful, Breezie excels at playing the long game. For every new action she takes there's a plan, a backup, and a backup backup, and the long-term advantages are weighed as carefully as any short-term gain. She is adept at reading a room and presenting herself and her plans to best effect, and highly skilled at getting someone to follow her lead while believing it's of their own volition.
Weaknesses:
Physical: Breezie is brains, not brawn – she doesn't fight and has no interest in learning to do so, preferring to keep her hands clean and let her minions and associates do any dirty work. Thus, if cornered on her own there's very little she can do about it beyond call for backup and stall her heart out. Her keen sense of smell can also prove troublesome, as strong scents can overwhelm her.
Mental: Breezie has no motivation aside from elevating herself, and she doesn't understand people who do: altruism just because is alien to her, and while she'll take steps to shield those close to her because they're hers she has trouble comprehending unselfish aims. Why would someone help a person who isn't potentially useful to them? Breezie doesn't know, and it's at least a little surprising every time: one of the few things, perhaps the only thing she's likely to fail to account for.
Emerald Abilities:
N/A
History:
Born to a middle-class family on West Island, Breezie had a fairly typical upbringing for the first five years of her life – and then her father was laid off from the tech company he'd worked with for a decade. The family's fortunes spiraled from there; evicted from their uptown apartment, Breezie and her parents ultimately found themselves squatting with other families in a rundown tenement, the adults taking odd jobs while Breezie panhandled and performed for change. They lived this way for a number of years, both parents promising a turnaround would come any day now – until, when Breezie was ten, her father left one night and never returned. Refusing to believe he'd abandoned them, Breezie and her mother worked all the harder; the strain ultimately took a toll on her mother's health, and Breezie found herself entirely alone at age fifteen. Vowing that she would have the return to a normal, comfortable life her parents had promised her, Breezie took any work she could find, using only the bare minimum she needed to survive and storing the rest away. Finally settling as a receptionist at a small media company, she began forging connections and moving up through the ranks – until finally, she had the money and social collateral to strike out on her own and form Breeze Media.
Never limiting herself to just one area, Breezie steered her company into television, gaming, music, movies, and sports sponsorship – and never hesitated to use underhanded means to make sure her products were always at the top of the charts. Under her careful, calculating guidance Breeze Media flourished; flaunting her rags-to-riches success, Breezie became a face of hard-work entrepreneurship and used her new fortune and the public's goodwill to launch a highly publicized investigation into her father's disappearance, ultimately learning he'd been killed by Central City police while trying to rob an ATM. These things did happen, though, and Breezie publicly forgave the officer involved – even becoming invested in the college education of his daughter, setting up scholarship funds in his name when he was killed in the line of duty a few years later, and taking his daughter under her wing as a personal assistant.
As her public enterprises flourished, Breezie found other ways to elevate herself. Forging connections with the various gangs in Central City as part of her bid to rise to the top, Breezie's combination of calculated alliances and willingness to fund whatever benefitted her allowed her to pull the once-warring factions together under one banner. Dubbed 'the Syndicate', the united gangs evolved into a true mafia with hands in everything - and began to spread to other cities, taking control by wile, by force, and by offering both funding and protection. Seated comfortably at the top of the food chain, Breezie controls this second empire through a network of handpicked puppet leaders; Breezie is on top in the media world, and she'll place herself on top in the underworld too - her ultimate goal being to have those in power in her pocket and at her beck and call.
She'll never be beholden to anyone, for any reason.
Likes: Spa days, publicity, extreme sports (as a spectator), loyalty (if it's to her), fine dining, technology
Dislikes: Getting her hands dirty (metaphorically or otherwise), poor returns on investments, laziness, disloyalty (to her)
Appearance: Breezie is a tall, elegant hedgehog with teal fur, dark teal quills with purple tips, and purple-brown eyes. Her quills are kept long and arranged in upswept bunches, and she normally wears business attire – heavily favoring red. Both aware of her image and determined to never be a 'dirty little ragamuffin' again, Breezie is always perfectly groomed: makeup flawless, every quill in place, every seam straight, and claws beautifully manicured despite being hidden under her gloves.
