Urbane and self-possessed with an air of sophisticated charm, Rouge gives off the impression of being amused at and in control of any situation. Skilled at reading a room and reacting in just the right way to nudge things to her advantage, she’s not above using a flirtatious presentation and feminine charm to get her way - and if that doesn’t work, she’s just as happy to needle and provoke her target into giving something away. Aloof and outgoing at once, Rouge knows everyone and is friendly to everyone while rarely seeming to form any true emotional attachment. Prideful and stubborn, she projects an aura of self-assuredness that can evaporate in temper whenever she doesn’t get her way, and she’s certainly not one to hesitate to step on a few toes on her way back to her rightful spot.
Despite that, Rouge does have her softer side and loyalties. She dislikes meaningless conflict and is dismissive of the idea of vengeance for its own sake, and she will make every attempt to ascertain a situation before charging in and risking unneeded violence. Physical: As a bat, Rouge is a skilled flier; her relatively short wings are optimized for mobility, allowing her to make intricate maneuvers and turn on a dime. Her keen ears are another asset, combining with her ability to produce ultrasonic waves for echolocation, and those same high-frequency sounds can be used to disorient enemies or even induce headaches. She is also a highly skilled martial artist specializing in kicking attacks, including her signature Screw Kick - a spiraling kick that can be launched up from the ground or down from the air to strike opponents or dig for hidden treasure. She’s also remarkable stealthy, able to slip in and out of even highly secured areas with no one ever the wiser. Rouge is also a skilled Extreme Gear rider, though she likes the attention more than the sport itself.

A child of the dreary inner city, Rouge developed an early fascination with brightness and color - and the jewelry on display at local shops was just the thing to capture her imagination and longing. She wanted those gems for herself, knowing they were out of reach… until, in her midteens, she finally decided she had to have them and deserved them just as much (if not more than!) the people fortunate enough to buy and discard them on a whim. Rouge began observing the store day and night until finally, carefully planned, she broke in and took what she wanted… and got away with it. Elated with her new treasures and the thrill of the heist, Rouge began traveling from city to city, seeking out and taking what she wanted. Starting with stores, moving on to museums, and finally taking treasures hidden away in archaeological sites… it was never enough, each gem was as prized as the last and as dear to her heart, and she was unstoppable.
Still, it was only a matter of time before her ever more ambitious thieving caught up with her: an attempt to steal a Chaos Emerald from G.U.N. ended in capture just as the jewel was within her grasp. Impressed by just how far she’d gotten into the facility undetected, G.U.N. administration offered the bat a choice: prison, or work for them to investigate Eggman’s recent movements. Seeing the offer as a Get Out Of Jail Free card and an opportunity to get close to even more Emeralds, Rough readily accepted - leading to the chain of events that had her helping to keep ARK from crashing into the planet.
With the world preserved and her crimes pardoned, Rouge should have been happy; instead, she found herself feeling oddly unmoored. The apparent death of Shadow was more painful than she could have anticipated or was willing to admit, and at a loss she simply stayed with G.U.N. - seeing it as a way to continue Shadow’s attempt to fulfill his lost friend’s wishes. When she discovered Shadow alive - along with Omega - she readily rejoined him, the three forming a team that remains intact to this day. Now a full-time agent, Rouge spends her free time hunting for treasure and finding new ways to pamper herself… which, to be fair, often turns out to be the same thing.
